Mine collapse kills four people in Migori county.

An Osiri gold mine has collapsed in Nyatike, Migori county has claimed the lives of four miners and injures 15 others. Six of the injured miners are in critical condition and are admitted at Several hospitals in the county.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening as residents fear more people could still be trapped in the mine debris.

Local chief David Oulo said they have not yet confirmed the exact number of the miners who were prospecting for gold deposits in the mine, due to conflicting reports from residents; some of whom say 40 miners as others say it is 15.

“Three bodies were badly mutilated after being crushed, the other suffocated to death when he was cornered in a tight spot,” said Mr. Oulo. “The others were treated at Macalder hospital. The others were rushed to the referral hospital”.

Recovery efforts are still ongoing.
